A hallway we did
A hallway is where carpet gives up first. That pale strip down the middle is the whole reason this floor came out.
What this covers
- LVP and laminate
- Hardwood
- Subfloor repair
- Transitions and trim
How we do it
-
Check the subfloor first
Most flooring problems are subfloor problems. We check flatness and look for moisture before anything goes down, because covering a soft spot only buys you a year.
-
Let the material acclimate
LVP and laminate need a few days in the room they're going into. Skipping this is the usual reason planks gap or buckle a season later.
-
Undercut the casings
Door casings get undercut so flooring slides underneath, rather than being scribed around them. It's more work and it looks far better.
-
Lay it with a real expansion gap
Floating floors move. The gap gets hidden under baseboard and shoe, not filled with caulk.
-
Transitions and trim last
Thresholds, reducers and shoe molding go on at the end, once everything has settled where it wants to sit.
Questions worth asking
- Do I need to move the furniture out?
- No — we can move it, we just need to know in advance so we can plan the day around it. Anything fragile or irreplaceable, we'd rather you moved yourself.
- How long does a room take?
- Most single rooms are a day, assuming the subfloor is sound. Whole floors depend on how much old material has to come up first.
- Can you match flooring I already have?
- Sometimes. Send us a photo and, if you have one, a spare plank. Discontinued lines are the hard case, and we'll tell you if an exact match isn't going to happen.
- Do you deal with the subfloor as well?
- Yes. We would much rather find and fix a soft spot while the floor is up than have you call us about it next year.
What it costs
Every job is priced on its own. Text or email a photo of what you're looking at and we can usually give you a number without coming out — for bigger jobs we'll come and see it properly first.
You get the price before we start, not after.
