Basement finishing in the Grand Rapids area

Framing, drywall, flooring and trim to turn the basement into real living space.

What usually goes wrong

  • A basement used only for storage
  • Needing another bedroom, office or family room
  • A partly finished basement someone gave up on
  • Bare foundation walls and exposed joists you want covered
  • Cold floors that stop the room being used

How we do it

  1. Deal with water first

Any sign of moisture gets resolved before a single stud goes up. Framing over a damp wall creates a much more expensive problem than the one you started with.

  2. Frame, insulate, and plan the services

Walls go up with insulation and space left for anything that needs to run through them.

  3. Drywall, then floors

Board, tape, texture and paint before flooring goes down, so the floor isn't taking the abuse.

  4. Trim and finish

Doors, baseboard, casing and the details that stop it feeling like a basement.

Questions worth asking

Do I need a permit?
Usually yes for finishing a basement, and there are rules about ceiling height and egress windows if a bedroom is involved. We'll tell you what your project needs before you commit.
What if my basement gets damp?
Then that gets fixed first, or the project doesn't start. Finishing over a moisture problem is the single most expensive mistake in a basement.
How long does it take?
A basement is a multi-week project. We'll give you a realistic sequence at quote rather than an optimistic one.

What it costs

Every job is priced on its own. Text or email a photo of what you're looking at and we can usually give you a number without coming out — for bigger jobs we'll come and see it properly first.

You get the price before we start, not after.

Where we work
